MakeUpAlley.com
I think I may actually be on the brink of my first official swap on MAU . For those of you who aren’t in the ‘know’, at MakeUpAlley.com you can write beauty reviews, post spending diaries and even swap items that you aren’t too crazy about for items that you want to test – run or try out. It almost seems like an online pajama party – but I will keep you posted on my merging into the swap-arena. If you want to look me up over there, my username is sylviag818.

Crystal Natural Deodorant
I remember these crystal stick rock deodorants from wayyy back in the 70′s when they actually were in jagged rock formation. Now it’s way easier as they are in actual deodorant sized packaging – which lends to easy travel. The key is that you have to run the crystal under water to get it wet/smooth and then run it under your pits for odor control. Unfortunately it doesn’t do much for wetness control, and if you are an avid deodorant user, it may take a few days for your body to release the remaining chemical compounds from your previous deodorant usage.
The crystal rock deodorant stick is pretty dirt cheap and available at whole food stores or more organic stores – and it’s a PERFECT solution for dark tank tops/little black dress outings with guaranteed no white residue!

Burt’s Bees
I guess I am last on the bandwagon to discover Burts Bees products, but better late than never I suppose. While shopping at Whole Foods, I caught a glimpse of a free sample of the honey scented body lotion – and I was instantly intrigued! I have since then purchased 4 separate products:
Honey scented body lotion : Love it
Coconut intensive foot therapy lotion: won’t buy again – it’s hella greasy and thick
Burt’s cuticle salve : like it
Burt’s Lip Balm: LOVE it.
I guess 2 out of 4 isn’t too bad?

The Daily Grind
Ok so I will admit something. The Aveda Carribbean Therapy bodyscrub I just reviewed was totally a gift. I would never ever pay 38 smackers for a body scrub…even if it IS Aveda (My favorite product line). Here is what I used throughout college when money was tight, and now when organics are SO in!
The Daily Grind – Homemade Latte Scrub
2 cups of coarsely ground coffee (grind up some coffee beans to the count of 10 in an electic grinder)
1/2 cup raw sugar or sea salt (sugar will desolve easier, salt will exfoliate more, sugar smells better)
2-3 T massage oil (or whatever body oil you happen to have in your cupboard)
Mix all ingredients together. Take a hot shower to moisten your skin and open your pores. Using wide, circular motions, rub the coffee exfoliant onto your skin with strong, even pressure. If you are using sugar, let the mixture sit on your skin for a bit to let the minerals dissolve. I usually will do my other shower activities while the scrub sits on my skin (wash hair, face, shave legs etc) Shower off, pat skin dry (don’t rub if you can help it), and apply a thin layer of your favorite body lotion. Layering with a nice coffee scent or even vanilla scented lotion will totally lock the Latte smell in. Mmmmmm! And it cost next to nothing!

LuLu Guiness – Cast A Spell
What I really liked about the fragrance is the name. But then again, I do realize that everyone’s chemical makeup is different and that everything sits differently. I think that perhaps this is a better fragrance for a young girlie – maybe high school or even early college years. It’s light, airy and just a teeny weeny bit sweet.

Giorgio by Giorgio Beverly Hills
Giorgio Beverly Hills was my very first “grown up” perfume. My mom hates anything scented, so I never really was exposed to the pleasure of fragrance until my freshman year in high school where EVERYONE had “it” perfumes and cologne. The year was 1985 and Giorgio Beverly Hills was only 3 years old…and I simply HAD to have it! I did finally get it for Christmas that year, and to this day get teased on the enormous amount of perfume I would put on every morning before going to school. This past weekend, my friend and I went on a mini-shopping trip and stopped by the fragrance counter to try some of the latest and greatest. I tried on Angel – Alien by Thiery Mugler
- which was super sexy and might get purchased later on this season…and then I saw it. My first love…

Tasty Tidbit
Ok, so now that you have graduated college and gotten that uper-chic job and can actually AFFORD a Gucci horsebit hobo bag or Clarins Paris skincare or hell, maybe even the fab infamous Hermes Birkin (AND have a top ten slot on whatever waiting list is in place)…it would behoove you to actually know how to pronounce the international desired designer’s name correctly, and not just go by whatever Lil Kim seems to think it’s called.
Here is a quick language arts online tutorial for some of the hottest designers out. So DON’T sound like an idiot, especially if you don’t have to.
