Midnight Poison by Christian Dior

Nov 28 2007

Ok so I won’t bore you with the fragrance details of this blend - here is a good link if you’d like to know all the details, BUT what I will tell you is that this fragrance is very blatant. I wore it today for the first day, and to get a true test drive of a fragrance I usually wear it for a week straight to pay close attention to how it develops, especially on me, because I have a tendency of making lovely things smell odd.

Here is my quick review: It’s definitely not “young” or “light”… I would moreso say it’s along the lines of ‘complex’ ‘vintage’ and ‘moody’. It kind of has an old school vintage incense kind of smell too…you know, the kind that you burn when your trying to disguise that joint you just finished smoking. I’ll keep an updated posting during the week as I wear it again. Oh! And if you’d like to swap a decant or two for this or some of my other favorite fragrances, hit me up on MakeUpAlley.com

I want you all over Me…”L” by L.A.M.B.

Nov 9 2007

L by L.A.M.B...aka Gwen Stefani is totally reflective of my perception of Miss Gwennie herself…totally throwback and 80’s fab.

At first spray, it instantly reminded me of YSL’s Paris with strong notes of sweetpea and orange blossoms. It’s bright and fresh and uber-floral which totally makes it not for me.

Now Smell This has a really good in depth review of the fragrance note breakdown if you want more.

As a graphic designer I absolutely love the packaging, the retro throwback bling feel to the bottle and the gradient on the glass - very Gwen Couture! You can score L at your local Nordstrom or order it online at eLuxury.com and get a free cd/gift. Enjoy! LAMB GWP

Oct 24 2007

A fab little treasure that smells light, fun & carefree…even when your not. Voluspa’s Mimosa Martini fragrance blends Mimosa Flower Petals, Fresh Italian Lime, Chilled Watermelon Martini, Japanese Quince, Vanilla Resin, and White Lily.

It also has a fancy-pants little tassle that holds the little tag in place and has a little brocade quilted pouch to keep it in your bag. Mucho Mucho Fabuloso!

Pumpkin Pie Paradise - BBW

Oct 15 2007

pumpkinI really try to stay out of any Bath & Body Works that I pass by, because I always end up with something that I absolutely do not need and end up wanting to break whatever diet I am on at the time. Today, I just couldn’t stay out - I walked by and the cozy scent of pumpkin spice lurred me in like a cat passing a warm dish of milk. I fell hook, Line and Sinker…and ended up getting a mini jar of the Pumpkin Pie Paradise body scrub, and a few of the fall home fragrance items (read: sugary pumpkin clovy stuff). I tried the scrub this evening and as hard as it was to not eat the stuff, it actually made my skin feel refreshed and silky after my shower, but what I did was rub the scrub all over before I got into the shower and then lathered/rinsed. And then got mad because I’m on a diet and good LORD that stuff smells divine!

Pumpkin Season is Here!!

Oct 3 2007

Yay! I loooove this time of year - the markets are full of pumpkin stuff all over the place, the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks (I had one yesterday before I started JC officially lol) and there are all kinds of yummy scented pumpkin products up for grabs.

I had a pumpkin facial last season at Burke William’s spa and they sent me home with a pumpkin enzyme peel mask which was pretty good. Pumpkin is rich in vitamins A, C and zinc and will get you glowing in a good way. I’ve got a coupon code for Spa-View readers to save 15% from Greatskin.com just use coupon code HW15 at checkout on any pumpkin products - and please send in your review for your favorite pumpkin stash!

Take a Healthy Whiff of This…

Aug 22 2007

lavanilla healthy perfumeOk so enter the world in which everything should really have dual purposes. If it smells good, it should be good for you, unlike most fragrance products that are out there, which is why I actually use alot of essential oils from Whole Foods and drop them into some basic lotion…but the these girls have stepped it up in the mainstream marketplace, namely Sephora, with the cult fave LaVanilla - Fragrance that is Good for you. Healthy fragrance? Yes!

Here is a quicklist of the most interesting details regarding La’Vanilla:

  • Vanilla is considered calming and aiding in reducing stress.
  • Vanilla also embodies antioxidants, moisturizing and vitamins.
  • Skin absorbs up to 60% of what is applied to it - regardless of whether it is slathered, sprayed or massaged.
  • LaVanilla is formulated with alpha hydroxy acids which aid in smoothing skin texture
  • LaVanilla uses all organic materials which is better for the earth

So there you have it - good smelling perfume that is a healthy alternative for overall fabulosity. I bought the $15 rollerball from Sephora “Vanilla Grapefruit” with notes of Grapefruit, Bergamot, Lime, Orange, Cedarwood, Heliotrope, Madagascar Vanilla. Delicioso!

L’Artisan - Premier Figuier

Aug 17 2007

the fig treeThe first of it’s kind - a perfume themed after the entire essence of the Fig tree is pretty nice, but has no staying power on me at all. I gave it a test drive for a week but unlike other fragrances, I got no compliments at all, nor did I smell it after only an hour after application. It does smell lovely though, but perhaps a room fragrance may be a bit more enjoyable.

Plus, didn’t Jesus curse the fig tree? I’m just asking…

Still ~ by Jennifer Lopez

Aug 9 2007

jennifer lopez“An evening fragrance of soft white flowers“…and I’m just totally asking, but didn’t I read somewhere that JLo is all divalicious about her dressing room needing to have fresh white flowers? Maybe I am mistaken, but it sounds kind of familiar.

Anyway, Here is my review plain and simple: I don’t like it, it totally doesn’t last and I’m really sad because I super love Jennifer Lopez, but sofar, I have swapped out both Glow and now I am about to put Still up for swap. Come on Jenny Lo-Lo make a nice refined scent to reflect your glamorous image that you have transitioned into so nicely! Viva Mujer!

Anyway, I saw this on FragranceNet.com for under $25 bucks if you don’t want to listen to me and try it out for yourself

Costes ~ Hotel Costes of Paris, France

Aug 6 2007

Today is the first day of my trial run of Costes of the famed Hotel Costes in Paris, Fr. EDT.

I just sprayed it so it’s a bit strong - very kind of incense-ish but not in a cheapie goth-granola hippy kind of way. I don’t know much about the actual perfumier who mixed it, but I will definitely do some research and post it up here later on during the day as I track the fragrance transitions. It actually has some sweet undertones but it’s definitely spicy at first - which is totally my kind of scent! Ok…off to start my day - more later!

Update:
ok I am going to give this perfume only a couple of stars as the scentlife is only at most 4 hours. Bummer - because I absolutely adore it! I hear there is a candle that is TDF!

Here is some more info on it - I just might have a fragrance crush!!

Mixed by perfumer Olivia GIACOBETTI who has also created fabulous perfumes for L’Artisan Bottega Veneta,   Diptyque Essence of John Galliano, Guerlain Baby Guerlain and Hermes…just to name a few. Ummm can you say FAB.U.LOUS??!

Escada ~ Sunset Heat Sizzles!

Aug 6 2007

This advertisement pic totally sums up Escada’s Sunset Heat for me - good job marketing team!!! When I put it on the first time, I kind of felt like going to a luau or something.  Maybe a yacht club lunch or a pool party. It’s super light, not overpowering and has a really soft kind of fruity vibe going on for it. The lifespan of the scent isn’t too long, but it’s a good mood picker-upper and definitely says SUMMER all over it!

Fragrance Notes:
Papaya, Lemon, Mango Sherbet, Pineapple Mousse, Icy Watermelon, Peach Lotus Flower, Hibiscus, Sandalwood, Musk, Amber Crystals.

you can pick up Escada Sunset Heat at most fragrance counters I believe…and if it comes in a gift pack, you might want to go that route since layering the scent (i.e. lotion, EDP & perhaps a purse spray for refreshing later on) in the event you want to re-up your scent at a longer event.

Balenciaga - Rumba circa 1989

Aug 4 2007

balenciaga rumbaAnother 80’s perfume added to my collection - Balenciaga’s Rumba is mysterious and sexy. The description states that it’s for casual usage, but I say bullhonky to that. It’s evening all the way. And especially when you are feeling uber sexy.

It’s a bit heavy, so you know the routine…less is more. Scent life is around 16 hours give or take.

FRAGRANCE NOTES - fruity and floral, has exotic notes of light woods, musk and vanilla.
classification: oriental/spicy

the best part? Fragrance Net has it for around $25 bucks! woot woot!

Lorenzo Villoresi: Spezie

Jul 23 2007

I am not your typical perfumier enthusiast. For years and years I loved fragrance from afar, but everything I had tried (read: Giorgio beverly hills, auqolina pink sugar etc.) smelled fabulous on other people, in the stores or on paper swatches, but just not me. I do have my old favorites - Dior’s Hypnotic Poison, YSL’s Paris, and of course my absolute favorite Dior’s Dolce Vita but recently a super sweet swapper over at MUA sent me a sample decant of Lorenzo Villoresi’s Spezie fragrance, and just for the hell of it, I sprayed it on…and O/M/G I was in instant sheer aromatic heaven!!! It’s sultry. Organic. Spicy. Uncommercial. I’m still almost in denial that I actually might have found another fragrance that isn’t from sephora or whole foods and on every porn star in the valley. Let’s give it up for MUAyet again!

Attn: Northridge Shopping Divas

Jul 21 2007

sephora at the northridge mallJust today I decided to take an evening trip to my local Northridge Fashion Mall and not drive all the way down to the Topanga mall, which btw is totally my favorite mall in the whole world…and I notice 2 new stores that I had no idea where there: Coach (yes a boutique, upstairs kind of by BBW) and Sephora (!!!) but check it out - the Sephora is actually inside the JC Penny store! Crazy, I know.

Usually I cut through the JC penny store to get to the other side without having to make the long ass stroll by stores that I never go to to get to the Fredericks of Hollywood, the Doggie store etc. quick and in a hurry. Today as I was scuttling by the hall, out of the corner of my eye I caught the Murad logo, and stopped in my tracks. JC Penny carries Murad?? Then I looked to the left, and saw Bare Escentuals and thought…wow product placement is all over these days…and then I saw Benefit pop materials and looked up and saw that it actually was a mini-me Sephora inside JC Penny, mildew smell from the outside mall fountain and all lol. It’s not a full size sephora, but probably has most of the basic kits and pallettes and what not, and it sure beats having to drive all the way down to topanga on a friday evening during traffic hour! Another kind of surprise at the Northridge Macy’s store : They gave a chunk of the shoe department to Bare Escentuals for thier little boutique too - so now you can get all your messy minerals at macy’s!

Loup Garou - BPAL

Jul 18 2007

And so I’m getting my swap on over at MUA and I see a bunch of BPAL (Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab for those of you who just aren’t hip and don’t know…which was me until like 3 weeks ago) and I get overly curious. A trusted scent-o-phile friend of mine has spoken positively about the stuff and so I trade away…for Loup Garou which kind of brings back some semantic recognition from somewhere in the late 80’s but I’m just not sure…could it be perhaps Beowulf? Maybe. But that’s a different post on a different journal. Ok so back to the fragrance…
