MakeUpAlley.com

I think I may actually be on the brink of my first official swap on MAU . For those of you who aren’t in the ‘know’, at MakeUpAlley.com you can write beauty reviews, post spending diaries and even swap items that you aren’t too crazy about for items that you want to test – run or try out. It almost seems like an online pajama party – but I will keep you posted on my merging into the swap-arena. If you want to look me up over there, my username is sylviag818.

Janna K Oxnard – Don’t Do It!

I have gotten sooooo many emails about shared negative Janna K experiences – somuchso that I didn’t want to edit them and delete actual names, so if you don’t see your comment posted, that is probably why. I think that it’s great that we can use a blog board for open and honest feedback. I personally have had more than a couple bad experiences with JannaK so I would give my overall advice of simply not going!

Oily Hair – The Real Deal

Ok. I have oily hair. I have had oily hair most of my life, and managed to be annoyed at my every other day mandatory shampoo ritual for most of my life as well, however, I find myself continuing my never ending quest to find the perfect remedy to save myself the hours of unsuccessful hair straightening and bi-weekly $35 bucks for Tasha to whip my hair up. So this month, I am going to simply dish out all of my trial and errors and basically document my journey to see if perhaps in time and experience, I can finally have some peace with my shampoo bottle.

Here are the things that I have tried:

1. Hair Powder – I have tried 2 different brands, and will review them another time – perhaps when I am not so annoyed at spending 2 hours in the bathroom with my hairdryer and ionic wrap brush.

2. Vinegar & water. It stinks, it doesn’t work any better than regular shampoo.

3. Beer. TOTALLY doesn’t work, plus I drank the other 5 so as to not ‘waste’ good product. So extra calories, some drunk dialing and a hangover later, my hair was still greasy the next evening.

4. Tea Tree Oil drops in my shampoo – this kind of works – but it makes your scalp SUPER tingly and smells medicinal. It did however, give me an additional day of not having to shampoo or wear a ponytail.

5. wearing a ponytail or bun. On days when I just simply cannot fathom washing my hair, this seems to be the best solution of all to date.

6. wearing a hat. OMG gross – totally does not work – your hair gets more greasy, flat and actually has a funky smell that is NOT cute and also seeps into your hat. gross.

7. Putting conditioner just on ends of the hair and not the root. – kind of works…but I do this as a regular cleaning routine as to not give my roots any additional oils since it seems to be doing a good job of that on it’s own.

8. Using dishsoap for shampoo. TOTALLY worked – but left my hair ends totally dry and dull looking.

9. Using Sebastian’s Green Apple shampoo for oily hair — worked pretty good – but I can’t seem to find this anywhere in stores?

10. Baby Powder – totally works, but leaves your hair super ashy and gray. not cute.

ok. that is all for now – I’m going to post this recipe and give it a try in 2 days when my hair is in slick mode and I will post a review after that. I know you are sitting on eggs on this one ;)

    Saints Studio ~ Santa Monica

    Saints Studio
Right off the 3rd Street Prominade in Santa Monica
    website: SaintsStudio.com

There are only 3 things that suck about Saints…the 405, the 10 and Prominade parking. Other than that, this chic little salon gets my business at least once a year, and yes, I do battle the traffic, pay for parking and battle the trendy 3rd street Prominade crowds just to get a fabulous haircut, eyebrows and facial at Saints. For it having such a boutique-ie feel and selling the hottest products (read: Aveda icon, Bumble & Bumble icon ) it totally is not over the top priced for over the top styling!

For a cut, lowlights and streaks of red stain I paid a little less than $200, about $15.00 for my brows, and $65.00 or so for a euro-facial which left my skin smooth and dewy!

If you’ve got an afternoon to kill and want a super-bomb haircut, head on out to Saints Santa Monica.

    Salon Passion – Camarillo

    Salon Passion
    (805) 388-3708
    370 N Lantana St,
    Camarillo
    , CA 93010

A gem in Camarillo…Salon Passion – an Aveda Concept Salon has an artsy Latino vibe with swanky hair ‘artists’ giving the best of the latest must-have hair styling. My personal favorite stylist – Enrique who also happens to be the owner of the salon. While the shop is medium sized, what really surprised me was the cozy room right off to the side which is a tranquil retreat that somehow amazingly drowns out the whole hustle and bustle of the salon. Be sure to ask for Pauline!

    Treatments I personally recommend:
Back Facial, Eyebrow Shape & Wax & European Facial. All to DIE for!

The only downside is that Pauline the Esthetian only books appts 2 days a week so call and get your appt early. It makes for a perfect get-away day with the Camarillo Premium Outlets less than 5 minutes away!

Bumble & Bumble hair powder anyone?

I was reading in a magazine over the weekend about b & b’s ‘hair powder’ which comes in an aerosol spray which is supposed to help absorb oil and make your hair style last longer? Has anyone actually used this?

I get so annoyed because I go to the shop every 2 weeks to get my hair pressed/flattened and it only lasts 2 days, maybe 3 if I put it in a ponytail on the 3rd day because I have really oily hair, and I would LOVE to figure out a way to extend it another couple of days…

T3 Ceramic BlowDryer & Flat Iron

Ok so I have just realized in the last couple of months or so that there are major improvements on the basic styling tools, and as a ‘glam-puss’ I feel rather annoyed that I fell so far behind. But anyway, here are my two suggestions/recent additions to my stock of hair tools that are AMAZING!T3 Ionic blowdryer - makes your hair super shiny, fluffy and smooth AND the hairdryer doesn’t get hot on your head. Even my dog’s hair is significantly bomb with the use of the ionic dryer!

T3 Ceramic flat iron – OK before you ask why I didn’t get a CHI flatiron like everyone else on this earth…I had a gift certificate for nordstroms for 200 bucks and I wasn’t really in the mood for shoes because it was closed toe season, so I checked out the hair products. This cute asian girl who probably wasn’t older than 19 says to me “you know what? I can see your flat iron marks , and if you had this one, I promise you you wont get them…I didn’t even know what the old flat iron marks were until a customer showed me” And I immediately felt old, and then compulsively bought it even with the non-sale $200 price tag. IT IS AMAZING!

you can flatten your hair in 1 smooth swipe -
the iron gets super duper hot in less than 1 minute
the iron makes your hair shiny and smooth.

    TOTALLY WORTH THE INVESTMENT LADIES!!

ok now I have officially shown my age, yet I feel that I have done the beauty world some good with this insightful review. HA

here is the link of the T3 products if you are interested. T3
