Farah’s Beauty Trend

I was coming out of the Nail Forum, Porter Ranch completely perplexed as to WHY my mani-pedi (with upgrades) came out to nearly $100 (which I will break down later) and was stopped by two really good looking people who, I thought, were going to ask me for directions or something, but ended up totally selling me on a ‘spa-package’ for Farah’s. It sounded like a great deal – I give them $40 for a book of vouchers, which I can then use at Farah’s for 4 services, since the spa was ‘new’ and yada yada. The package included 1 haircut, 1 eyebrow shape (threading) 1 mini-facial and scalp massage and 1 deep condition. Leary of course, I called 411 and made sure that Farah’s did in fact exist, and called to confirm that they were selling a package as such and they said yes. So I bit and shelled over $40.

I called and made my appointment, showed up, and was completely amazed that the ‘salon’ was really under construction from an existing beauty supply store. The women who were working there were squacking in a language that I did not understand, and everything was in chaos. I waited for my ‘girl’ to cut my hair. When she finally showed up, she was really nervous and reserved about cutting my hair. I almost felt sorry for her. A quick trim took her almost 45 minutes of nervous snipping here and there, and in an attempt to try to make her feel better, I asked her what her regular rates for a haircut was – $18. Of course, washing the hair was not included in that price.

Needless to say, I never made my last 3 appointments, as the rule was that you had to come back every 2 weeks, but not before 2 weeks to get each service. Being that Farah’s is located in a somewhat shady strip mall across from Lowe’s in Canoga Park, I couldn’t really see myself going to that location another 3 times, so I figured I would go ahead and take the loss. Oh well, you win some, you loose some, and I lost this one.

Botox is Sooooo 2008! Reloxin is IN!

Karen made sure that we got this new & tasty tidbit! And you know I’m excited…cheaper? Lasts longer?? Sign me up homie! Read all about the New Botox called Reloxin on MSNBC by clicking here.

“Within the next few months, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to approve Reloxin as an injectable treatment for wrinkles. Made from the same neurotoxin as Botox, Reloxin is said to act more quickly and may last longer than Botox, according to a report filed on Thursday for TODAY by Michelle Kosinski of NBC News.

The bottom line for consumers, according to Dr. Nancy Snyderman, NBCs chief medical editor, is that Reloxin will probably be priced lower than Botox.”

JellyBath in Review

Hello 2009! I have streamlined all my reviews to get up and posted this week, so be sure to bookmark, this is going to be a heavy week!

Next up, we have JellyBath which I got as a gift over the holiday season as a small stuffing stuffer thingie. I decided to do a trial run with the package while watching the Laker game so I grabbed a bowl and followed the directions and began my soak. What I didn’t do, however, was log on to the website Jellybath.com so that I could at least know what was I in for, because to be perfectly honest, it totally creeped me out. As the seconds went by, the soak kept getting thicker and thicker, turning into a jello consistency…trapping my fingers into the goop.

I kept trying to squish the little granules and didn’t really know what to do, so I just let it soak until it got lukewarm and just started feeling gross, and then figured that I should toss the goop down the toilet, because where else could I get rid of it? I did happen to see a tiny pack of salt crystal things that said ‘dissolve when finished‘ but didn’t really get what I was supposed to do with them – so I figured that maybe once I tossed the goop down the toilet, I would run some more hot water and dissolve, then soak. So that’s what I did. I’m still not sure exactly what I’m supposed to do with the dissolve step. Afterwards, I’ve got to say that my hands felt amazing, and my nails looked great and moisturized!

I followed with a papaya enzyme peel by Elemis on the tops of my hands to rid of any old skin, and viola – instant high quality manicure! Thanks ladies, for the lovely home-kit, and I actually think I will be buying some JellyBath stuff for more of my manicures, and at least now I know what to expect! If anyone has any info on the actual dissolving method, that would be appreciated lol.
