Olay Body Age Transform Serum

Aug 3 2008

When I first heard the commercial for Olay’s Body Transform Age Serum, I was half asleep and thought that perhaps I was dreaming, because the though of an anti-aging BODY serum sounded fabulous for the whole battle against the cleavage-crows feet has continued to ensue. I went to my local CVS to check it out, and sure enough, it was true, PLUS it was under 10 bucks! It lasted me around 2 months and I just finished my bottle and have a pretty good idea on how mediocre it is - my crows feet are still winning the battle, and my skin doesn’t look any more transformed.

One thing I DID have to do though, is put it in my downstairs bathroom because the perfume scent was SO intense, that it was giving me a headache when I put it on before bed and didn’t have enough air filtering. After moving the bottle downstairs to the bathroom, I did use it after my shower to keep my skin softened, which it did, but I’m not sure I will shell out another 10 bucks to get it again. Actually, you can find coupons in the paper for this at least once a month, but honestly, it’s not really a product that I’m lemming for anytime soon. These days, every dollar counts and when you actually go to buy something, its going to have to be something great, IMO. The economy doesn’t have room for expensive ‘try mes’.

Rare Minerals *update*

May 22 2008

Ok, so I have sort of gotten used to the rare minerals night treatment, but I’m feeling a bit more dry than usual. The SA at the boutique said that it would be a few days to overcome the dryness - and today is glycolic peel day so I’m sure there’s gonna be even more dryness over the next few days - good thing I don’t have any major plans over the next few days in case I start to peel like a snake :(

Thread Count Totally Matters!

Apr 12 2008

I was a late bloomer to the whole concept of high thread count sheets/linens, but seriously, the thread count number completely changed my life. Honest! I’ve noticed that the temperature of my body regulation is much more comfortable, those weird creases that I used to get in the morning are gone, and every time the sheets are laundered, they actually get softer. Go Figure.

I think I must have been in my last year in college when one of my best buddies B’s mom Sharon schooled me on the whole thread count phenom, and I just recently introduced a younger friend of mine to the major importance of investing in at least 2 good sets.

Here’s the best part though - you can find super great deals on 600+ count sheets online, as well as offline at places like Marshall’s, TJMaxx or maybe Ross if you are lucky. Tuesday Morning also has some really good deals on luxury linens for a fraction of a price - I recently came up on a pair of Kate Spade European sham covers for less than 2 bucks each! I also buy my linens from Overstock.com and sometimes SmartBargains.com for under $40 per set.

PedEgg

Mar 31 2008

sigh…insomnia has horrific pitfalls, as if not being able to sleep is difficult enough, I am being tempted by infomercials at night too! My latest obsession of ‘must haves’ was the ped-egg. you know which one I’m talking about. I was super mad when I got it though (got it through amazon.com). It’s not any more effective or different from your run of the mill slougher that you can get at Target. blah. I suppose that it does have the ‘egg’ feature that catches all your dusty gross dead skin, but unless you are going to hold it upright to file your feet, the ash crumbles all over your leg because it’s being held upside down when trying to get under your heel. dude. gross.

Strivectin Orbital Eye Area cream

Mar 17 2008

Another hit and miss with Strivectin with me - I’ve used both the hand cream treatment and the regular cream and now, just coming in a smaller tube the small print says that the eye cream is actually the same thing as the regular cream minus the fragrance to ‘not irritate’ the ‘delicate’ eye area. Whatev. It still isn’t worth the money.

Sunscreen…About Face!

Nov 11 2007

sunblockInteresting indeed!!! Today while I was getting my fabulous hair extension by Georgio B, a representative from malibuwellness.com came in and was giving a sales pitch, and a couple of things really caught my attention. One of the things that she stated was that too much sunscreen is actually not good for the skin! My immediate response was to think “Ok so every dermatologist, esthetician and doctor is wrong…not to mention Oprah Magazine?? Yea right.”

but then I remembered that one of my best friends has an allergy to sunscreen so I decided to give her a call. She mentioned that she had seen some alternative mineral based zinc sunscreen that has no added chemicals but that it was pretty pricey as opposed to the fake synthetic stuff that you can get for under 8 bucks from Walmart.

Here are a few other things that I found interesting from the sales pitch:

1. too much sunscreen contains tons of chemicals that actually are more harmful to your skin than helpful in preventing sun damage. SPF 15 is the most that you should ever put on your face.

2. Vitamin C is a natural sun protectant

3. When you get a chemical peel to remove all the wear and tear of environmental wear on your face, your brand new skin is actually totally susceptible to new and worse damage from the environment because now it has no protection against the elements. When you put product on your face after a peel and it burns, it is because your skin is desperately attempting to re-balance the ph level that it does not have because you had it removed.

4. Vitamin E is really all you need to fight fine lines and wrinkles

5. Any product that comes in a jar and that you have to dip your finger into contaminates the product, as well as lets oxygen in which decreases its effectiveness every time you touch/open the jar. (umm gross dude).

Anyway, those are what I remember right off the bat, Georgi actually placed and order for some stuff so I’m going to wait to see what his results are with the product, and of course, I’ve got to get some investigation going on to see how valid her points are…this changes everything if it is indeed the truth!
