Oct 27 2006

Massage on Wednesdays are the best thing ever! I went to go see Connie and actually fell asleep about 3/4 into my session. Amazing! On days like this I’m so glad I have a corny chick flick to come home to and cozy up on the couch!

Sundari

Sundari Essential Oil Skincare

While this little bottle of organic essential oils marketed as skincare smells divine…and did somewhat elevate my mood as good as it smelled, it did worse for my skin. The spa consultant at Escape Spa Northridge swore by it’s effectiveness pointedly due to it’s Ayurvedic origins and telling me to just dab one drop and rub it into my palms and pat onto my skin before I moisturize. And so I did. And I broke out with exactly 7 adolescent type zits. The oldschool zits – the ones that are big and ripe and ugly. Zits. Not an allergic reaction, not a bad reaction, not a sensitive reaction, but a plain ugly juicy zit.

Perhaps because the only ingredients in Sundari’s Combination Skincare (retailing for $52 USD) ONLY contains essential oils, which essentially block your pores. Bad idea team Sundari!

Anna Flores – Oxnard

Oct 23 2006

One of my favorite things to do is book an appointment with Anna Flores, an amazingly great massage therapist. She comes with everything you need, even a cd if you want to listen to some atmosphere music (but I must have my classical masterpieces playing on low volume). After an hour swedish massage with Anna, I can’t even see straight so the convenience of her coming out to my house for an appointment is perfect, as I can crawl into bed afterwards and sleep soundly! If you live in the Oxnard area and are looking for an amazing massage experience, send me an email and I will pass your information on to Anna…and enjoy!!

Aveda Tourmaline Radiance Serum

Oct 21 2006

I saw on the Tyra Banks Show(the skincare show) that you should always give a product at least 6 months to rate it’s effectiveness before you either switch or give up…and I think it has been approximately 7 months now that I have been using Aveda’s face serum…which my skincare specialist swears by – but between me and you, I really don’t see any benefits or difference. I am going to have to do some research on what serums are actually supposed to do anyway, and what exactly I should expect as a result for using them. So stay tuned.

The Skinny on: Bodyography Prof. Cosmetics Primer

Oct 12 2006

Since makeup is my thing among things, "its what I do"…its what I love-  I shall share what I believe every gal must include in their makeup bag besides Carmex and a Tampax Pearl tampon (hey,a lady should always be well-equippedKiss).

The beginning to must-haves for a flawless makeup application is a good primer.  So allow me to introduce you to:  Bodyography  Veil Primer.  To date, this product has trumped all other primers I have used or tried.  A primer is a foundation for your foundation, it preps the skin with a finish so that when foundation is applied it appears smooth and flawless. Bellacures-LA

Oct 12 2006

To my fellow Californians and touristas of Los Angeles…

I received this info. from an email regarding a lovely spa in LA on Robertson Blvd. The menu sounds delish and offers a wide variety in services when it comes to your “everyday run of the mill” manis and pedis. The spa even features a signature homemade organic scrub which contains Indian sugar crystals-snazzy! From mint soaks, walnut scrubs, and to even a microdermabrasion treatment…your hands and feet will feel well pampered. If not, it’s a perfect excuse to stop by the candy store, the MAC pro-store and treat yourself to some goodies-which is down the street! Enjoy:

Bellacures’ expanded service menu and product line Bella of the Ball Little things in life cheer us up: black and white cookies, new strappy wedges, shiny manicures. Little things can also piss us off: dried out biscuits, excruciating heels, bloody cuticles. So when in need of a little pick-me-up, it’s important to indulge properly. Bellacures has long been a safe haven for luxury-seekers. Now the hot manicure spot has expanded their service menu for hands and feet to include an Intense Moisture treatment with rich butter cream, Exfoliating Walnut Scrub, Microdermabrasion Mani/Pedi, Dry Hand & Nail Therapy with hot oil, plus Winter, Minty Clean, Softer Soles and Callus Repair Pedicures. Bellacures is even offering treatments with their new homemade organic scrub with Indian sugar crystals, Dead Sea salt and grape seed oils, available for purchase at the salon. $9-$55, 239 N. Robertson Blvd., (310) 550-5822, bellacures.com

Spa Nordstrom Escape – Topanga Plaza

Oct 9 2006

Oooo I can barely contain myself I am SO excited! I went to the Grand Re-Opening of the valley’s latest gift to us materialistic felines….and they have a SPA! I’ts called Spa Nordstrom Escape and yes, I made an appointment already. With all the hundredsof people who were milling around the grand opening festivities, once you entered the Spa (in the eastern corner on the 2nd floor) it was immediately super quiet and smooth ambience was immediate. The salespeople were a bit pushy, but that is to be expected at Nordy’s but they did give me some free samples of goodies. My appointment is this week and I am getting the Longevity massage, the Signature facial and the Grapefruit Ice pedicure. I will post my review next week!!

Home Spa-ing Fun…First Up: Exfoliation

Oct 5 2006

Greetings All!

For my first official post (yay!) I would like to share a great exfoliation treatment with you that you can do in your very own home. Great for those nights when you’re home alone and need a lil extra pampering, PLUS…it involves sugar and honey (which is always good)! It’s called the Sweet Sensation Exfoliation and is great! A quick and fun way to exfoliate your skin between facials. The ingredients does call for dish soap, which was odd to me…but from experimenting you do need the detergents from the dish soap to mix with the sugar to create natural glycolic acid. Although, I dont think you should douse your face with Palmolive or Dawn dish soap, so I took the liberty of changing it to Dove Dish Soap, this I have tried and came out with good results. Another tip with this exfoliant is for people with couperose, the directions say to roll the honey mask when ready…dont, the rolling may cause more couperose. Instead, apply a warm towel to your face to soften the honey and gently wipe the mask off. Okay, have fun…and let me know how it goes! Happy exfoliating!

SWEET SENSATION EXFOLIATION

MATERIALS: PRODUCTS:

steamer Dove Dish Soap

3 warm towels vegetable oil

facial sponges pure Cane sugar

100% aloe vera gel

pure honey

massage oil (optional)

sunscreen(always super important!)

1. start with a clean pre-cleansed face using steam (for this you may use your own facial cleanser or soap)

2. pat face dry and apply a thin coating of vegetable oil

3. apply cane sugar to face (5 min.) then add Dove dish soap, you will feel the sugar start to melt which will

turn into a paste…creating a natural glycolic acid

4. apply steam for an additional 10 minutes, continuing to work the product…then remove with a warm towel

5. apply massage oil and perform light massage (optional, but if you do…try a light effleurage or lymphatic

drainage), remove massage oil with a warm towel

6. apply honey mask (I suggest a facial mask brush, but your fingers would do too), allow the honey to stay

on until tacky (about 10-15 min.)…when ready, roll off face (those with couperose, remove with warm towel)

7. apply aloe vera gel followed by a moisturizer of your choice and end with a good SPF!

8. let your soul glow!!!!Smile

*note: can also be great as a body exfoliant!

Nail City – Camarillo

Oct 3 2006

The name of this salon cracks me up…kind of like the ‘Happy Nail" or "Foxy Nail" or my favorite neighborhood nailshop in Inglewood "Man-Trap…anyway, my sister-in-law and I drove all over Camarillo one Thursday morning in search of a clean, relaxing and available pedicure – and guess what? It was pretty hard to find. After passing on 2 questionable nail salons, and 2 unavailable spa locations, we settled for Nail City in the Target shopping center. It was clean enough, the pedicure was somewhere around average, but check this out – it cost $33 bucks!!! FOR AN AVERAGE PEDICURE!!! I mean geez, if you get off your ass and make an appointment at a nice spot, it will actually be cheaper to get a pampering spa pedicure…which I guess is what is going to happen next. Until next time, I continue my quest to find the almost unattainable perfect pedicure in Los Angeles.

Aveda Tourmaline Charged Mask

Oct 3 2006

I love the tourlamine charged facial mask from AVEDA – it stings just a a little bit but just enough to let you know that it’s really digging out the gunk on your face…or at least thats what I hope the sting means! After I wash it off, my face feels nice and smooth and CLEAN!!

My facialist recommended it and suggested I use it twice a week, but to be honest, I use it about every other week and the results seem to be pretty good. Happy Home Spa-ing!
