OMG I can’t believe I missed SpaWeek!!! Sad! But for those of you who live on the east coast, you can catch it in October. Please let me know which $50 treatment you got and how it was!
CONGRATS to my brother Greg and sister in law Tracy on being new parents! My nephew Nicholas is now home and already getting his double chin…awww. So this post is dedicated to them!
I found this great website called AskDrElaine.com who specializes in infant massage and actually has workshops and classes that you can participate in as a family in Santa Clarita/Valencia (think Magic Mountain) and also in Lancaster I believe, but after watching one of her segments on the morning news, I am sure that you can benefit from her book that she has for sale on her website here.
Super informative for new parents, the website offers free information on how important touch therapy is for your newborn and can definitely have positve long term effects on the overall health of you and your baby-boo. Dr. Elaine has workshops, guest lecturing at various southern california universities, and even some baby massage oils that will make your touch time with baby even more beautiful.
“Based on the latest research, Massaging Your Baby begins by explaining how and why massage is so beneficial to young ones. This is followed by the basics: an explanation of the items you will need to have on hand, and of the best times to massage your child. The book then provides an easy-to-follow step-by-step guide to effective massage techniques. Included is a section on songs and rhymes that complement massage time. And as the child gets bigger, additional techniques are offered to treat sore muscles from sports and play. There is even a wonderful section designed for children with special needs, from autism to ADD, Down Syndrome, and spina bifida.” visit AskDrElaine.com for more on this fabulous topic!
Chastity is a glamapuss who also is a professional makeup artist…so if we are lucky, she will accept our invitation to join our greengrass rooted experiement. Comon Chastity – let’s get pretty!!!k

Ok. I have had it. I think the last time i had a super bomb pedicure was back in the 90′s. Although the Nail Forum in Porter Ranch does a nice parafin dip pedi, after much deliberation, I have decided that while it is a decent pedi, it really is not a GREAT pedi.
The other day at NailSpa LA in chatwsworth, I had the absolute worst pedicure I have ever experienced. It was so bad that I don’t really recall everything that did or did not happen, but left with the promise to myself and anyone else who will listen to swear them off of pedicures.
Besides the manager squwaking at my therapist in her native tongue to ‘hurry up” (ok so I’m TOTALLY assuming that is what she said…) she asked me if i wanted to upgrade to the sea salt treatment, so you know me, I love an upgrade so I agreed. Which ended up all over my legs and feet because she didn’t take the time to rinse it off and when I got into my shoes I almost fell right on my ass because there was exfoliation sea salt scrub all over the backs of my legs and heels. I totally know I am rambling, but I’m kind of irritated at the whole thought. blah. 2 thumbs and a nickel down for NailSpaLA as far as pedis go.
Ok. I have oily hair. I have had oily hair most of my life, and managed to be annoyed at my every other day mandatory shampoo ritual for most of my life as well, however, I find myself continuing my never ending quest to find the perfect remedy to save myself the hours of unsuccessful hair straightening and bi-weekly $35 bucks for Tasha to whip my hair up. So this month, I am going to simply dish out all of my trial and errors and basically document my journey to see if perhaps in time and experience, I can finally have some peace with my shampoo bottle.
Here are the things that I have tried:
1. Hair Powder – I have tried 2 different brands, and will review them another time – perhaps when I am not so annoyed at spending 2 hours in the bathroom with my hairdryer and ionic wrap brush.
2. Vinegar & water. It stinks, it doesn’t work any better than regular shampoo.
3. Beer. TOTALLY doesn’t work, plus I drank the other 5 so as to not ‘waste’ good product. So extra calories, some drunk dialing and a hangover later, my hair was still greasy the next evening.
4. Tea Tree Oil drops in my shampoo – this kind of works – but it makes your scalp SUPER tingly and smells medicinal. It did however, give me an additional day of not having to shampoo or wear a ponytail.
5. wearing a ponytail or bun. On days when I just simply cannot fathom washing my hair, this seems to be the best solution of all to date.
6. wearing a hat. OMG gross – totally does not work – your hair gets more greasy, flat and actually has a funky smell that is NOT cute and also seeps into your hat. gross.
7. Putting conditioner just on ends of the hair and not the root. – kind of works…but I do this as a regular cleaning routine as to not give my roots any additional oils since it seems to be doing a good job of that on it’s own.
8. Using dishsoap for shampoo. TOTALLY worked – but left my hair ends totally dry and dull looking.
9. Using Sebastian’s Green Apple shampoo for oily hair — worked pretty good – but I can’t seem to find this anywhere in stores?
10. Baby Powder – totally works, but leaves your hair super ashy and gray. not cute.
ok. that is all for now – I’m going to post this recipe and give it a try in 2 days when my hair is in slick mode and I will post a review after that. I know you are sitting on eggs on this one ![]()
