Journey to a Healthly lifestyle…
Let me be honest with you…I’ve been eating like a heifer. I’ve been dating this guy who believes I should gain some weight and indeed, I have. My goal over the next 6 weeks is to lose five pounds. Rarely, do I disclose my weight but I need to be perfectly honest with myself and you.
As of today 7-27-08, I stand at 5 feet 4 inches and 130 pounds…ewww!! Starting tomorrow morning I plan to keep a food diary over the next 6 weeks and commit to at least 300 minutes of exercise per week. As per “The Devil wears Prada” a size 4 is the new 6!! I gotta get this bum to shrink, if I’m going to stay in a size 4 anything bigger is unacceptable for this diva.
Every week, over the course of the next six weeks of my healthy journey…I’m going to participate in a new physical activity. This week Bikrham Yoga. I will post weekly weight updates and maybe measurements. Wish me luck and join me on my journey to a healthy lifestyle.

Renee the Exercise Disciplinarian
Ok people, get ready for Renee B. to be joining our forces. She’s a size 4, fabulous, bitchy and just our flavor. She’s notified me that the fitness section here on Spa-View is lacking (did I mention I’m battlerocking these last 15 lbs to goal weight by making excuses to not work out?) Anyyyyway, welcome Renee – let’s rock it! I’m gonna go do a set of crunches now, in your honor and to the betterment of my soon to be liposuctioned waist.

Carp Diem – ahem Fishy Pedi!
Something fishy is going on here…LOL omg I totally couldn’t help the uber-cheese factor in that line. But anyway, here’s the deal. As if people in Washington wasn’t stressed out enough, now a trend in the DC & Virginia area where fish eat old skin during your soak session pedicure.
Since you can’t get a good slough session these days due to totally gross public health sanctions, these Doctor Fish will gnaw off all your gross dead skin. Before the health department got involved, up to 8 clients at a time would soak their feet in a community type Fish Pool, some issues did arise: At times the fish would flock to the feet of an individual with a surplus of dead skin, leaving others with a dearth of fish, and if your paying 35 bucks for fish to eat your dead skin and all the fish are all over the gross person next to you with dead skin hanging off their feet – is that really fair?
Oh it gets better. John Ho, who runs the Yvonne Hair and Nails salon with his wife, Yvonne Le, said 5,000 people have taken the plunge so far.
In addition to offering pedicures, Ho hopes to establish a network of Doctor Fish Massage franchises and is evaluating a full-body fish treatment that, among other things, could treat psoriasis and other skin ailments. Now if that isn’t organic, I dunno what is.
Don’t forget that there are alot of nature’s beasts that offer alternative healing, umm, like the maggots that are used for infection, leeches for detoxing and Kirsty Alley’s favorite – tape worms for weight loss.. LOL. If you have gotten a Dr Fish pedicure, we would SO love to hear from you, because I don’t know anyone personally who could be convinced to give it a test run, for research purposes, of course!

Super Organified!
Don’t believe all the ’100% organic” labeling in the grocery stores? Dude, me too! Everything these days seems to be labeled ‘green”, “earth’s best’, “100% farmer certified” “organice” blah blah…but how on earth can everything in the store which wasn’t previously labeled organic, be organic with slick green and yellow pigmented glossy labels? Well, here is an option to know you are really getting the earthliest organic stuff: and remember this key phrase, they are sure to start popping up all over the place!
Community Supported Agriculture: featured here is the Tierra Miguel Foundation. The way it works in a nutshell is you pay the farm foundation around $700 for weekly delivery, or $350 for bi-weekly delivery per season – which includes a box full of fruits, veggies & herbs free of pesticides and chemicals. This particular farm delivers in spots from the North San Fernando Valley down to San Diego & alot of places in between. You can also visit the farm and take some gardening classes, kids classes etc.
It does sound pricey, but it is actually pretty competitive when you break down the pricing from pesticide, chemically enhanced fruits from the local market, but of course you have to come out the pocket once per season rather than the weekly trip to the store. But, you do gain the benefit of tastier, non-pesticide ridden produce. I’m going to try it out for the fall season, since the whole stepford-fruit phenom that is going on at the local markets.
