What’s the 411?

Jul 30 2007

sooooo many beautifully wonderful things have been happening as of late, and I want to just jot down a list of what is coming in the next few days (hopefully, pending life doesn’t get in the way of course):

We have a new girlie who is going to join the party & start blogging: Welcome aboard Courtney! Yay! Look for her intro & bio and what not coming this week.

New Superfoods Section has been added - as we ‘age’ we need to make some adjustments to our diets to make sure we don’t be our own worst enemy. If anyone wants to throw in recipes, great places to eat better foods on the run or just how to implement a healthier snack please feel free to contribute!

The Girls and I have just returned from a SUPEFAB weekend at the Temecula wine country and a visit to one of the nation’s top Destination Spas: The Glen Ivy - look for a review from both Staci and Brianette since the deal was a written review in exchange for the free hotel room LOL.

New reviews that will be coming this week:
Bella-Mani Hand and Foot Spa located in Ventura, Crystal Clear Dog Spa Grooming, Thai Yoga massage @ Burke Williams Sherman Oaks, and hopefully a bunch of new posts in the Superfoods section. I’ve also tried to add a link to the product reviews pages to e-stores where you can actually purchase the items that have been reviewed so that you have a quick access to the product.

La Fleur Organique

Jul 28 2007

Free sample time! I got a packet of anti-aging eye cream through a great MUA swapper in my last package - this stuff is from france, available only at Walgreens (yes, a department store gem) and I really like it - it’s worth investigating. It smells good, has cute packaging and feels good - AND has a cute website. Now I know that I shouldn’t really be judging products based on their presentation & marketing scheme, but as a graphic designer and entrepreneur myself, I simply cannot help it.

Packaging is important to me. I feel that if you honestly feel that you have a great product, you will invest in beautiful packaging to move your product. Here is a screenshot of the homepage that you can visit by clicking here: Oh and be sure to check out how they conveniently put a graphic icon of a map of France to show where the product is from in the event you didn’t know where France was or looked like on the map LOL!

anyway, it’s cute, it’s probably not too expensive since it’s available at Walgreens, and smells good. I may give it a whirl the next time I need to run to the drugstore!

PCA Skin Physicians Clinical Care Products

Jul 27 2007

My facialist at the Nail Forum Porter Ranch recommended this product, it cost me just a smidge less of $30 and basically served it’s purpose but not with any bells or whistles. I have though, purchased 2 of these after routine facials because I usually am out of moisturizer at the same time. I dunno, I don’t hate it, nor do I adore it. What I do do, is purchase it out of convenience I suppose. and so there is my review.

Dr. Michelle Copeland Skincare

Jul 27 2007

AHA Facecream
Again, rec’d a nice sized sample from a lovely MUA swapper, logged on to the website and read about it’s claimed properties. Its midrange again, $45 bucks for a tub, and after 1 application, I am kind of interested…I mean, it didn’t really feel an absolute wow factor, but it was nice. Does nice justify $40 plus shipping? I don’t even know right now. but I am sure if I do end up giving it a run, I will post ALL the info here LOL.

DDF Skincare - Glycolic Exfoliation Wash

Jul 27 2007

DDF skincareI just tried DDF Skincare aka Doctor’s Dermalogic Formula’s Glycolic Exfoliation Wash, and I must say, I am intrigued. It didn’t sting, it left my skin super smooth AND it didn’t have any granular stuff or stingy stuff going on that I have found in alot of the glycolic/exfoliation cleansers. AND I totally feel a difference - my skin feels smooth, and believe me, I am a hard sell. Plus I just checked their website DDFSkincare.com and noticed that they have kits, which I am totally a fan of to get a true trial run of the product - happy day!

plus I’m not even gonna lie…the website says they have a free gift and samples with every order LOL! I’m thinking of trying the 2 step to radiant skin kit. The pricing is mid-range - a bit more than the drugstore stuff, but not even close to the stuff you get at Nordstrom’s. Will definitely follow up with results.

Oh! I musn’t forget the importance that the product is not tested on animals :)

The “Man”icure Pedicure aka “Manpedi”

Jul 27 2007

There are two men in my life who I know will benefit from a professional manicure AND pedicure. There is just something about a dude’s feet that is just so…crusty. Ew. Anyway, I took one of the men to get a pedi with me the other day, finally…after telling him that you can do an add on for a foot massage for $1 per minute or somewhere in that dollar ballpark at the NailForum Porter Ranch. So he agreed to go with, and we booked our appt for the morning when it’s less crowded and mid-week for the same reason. Now he loved every minute of it - and will tell you if you ask him, but he simply refuses to post a review here…so in his words: “It was worth every penny and I don’t know why I waited so long”. So there you have it. Men like pedicures too.

Frederick Fekkai

Jul 27 2007

frederick fekkaiFekkai stuff has always been at the back of my mind, but to be honest, I really wasn’t trying to dish out the 20-something bucks for any hair products, even though I totally am a hair junkie. But guess what?? Rite Aide (select locations) carry Fekkai stuff for under 20 bucks, so I made the leap and actually purchased 2 items and got one free with purchase so I gave 3 products a test run:

Fekkai Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo - Chastity actually had suggested this shampoo on my oily hair post, and it TOTALLY does work - it strips your hair of all oils and excess residue for sure, but it doesn’t leave it stripped in a bad way - does that make sense? It smells ok, exactly like apple cider with a hint of stale beer (which I have heard is actually good for the hair) and rinses clean. I will for sure be purchasing this as a staple from now on - it’s worth it!

Fekkai Shea Butter Hair Mask -
it’s a bit heavy, a bit thick, but I really like the results from leaving it in for longer periods of time (I slapped it on before going to chill in the jacuzzi so it got steamy stuff too which was an added bonus). I’m not sure if I am a hair mask type of person, but I’m pleased with the end results, and for under 20 bucks and only needing it every other week or so, I will get a bunch of treatments out of it - so thumbs up.

Fekkai Glossing Cream
- The label claims that it brightens and shines up hair with natural olive oils, but to be honest, it feels alot lighter, smells better and doesn’t have any buildup like other shine oils. My hair is mostly extensions, so I really don’t use glossing products, but for super dry hair I would imagine it working super good.

All in all, I can say that I do like the Fekkai products, and will probably dabble in other products to see if they stand up to the hype, although after catching the infomercial on QVC and the prices being in the $50-$150 I’m not sure I can afford it LOL!

Beauty.com has some good prices and with free shipping so I will probably opt to purchase from there…

Beauty starts from the inside…yadablahblah

Jul 26 2007

ok so it’s SO cheesy sounding and I completely agree with you, but seriously, I really never knew how gross people eat, and how that easily shows on the skin, from the face to your feet. I really do try not to be too judgemental because lord knows I used to get my party on when I was younger, but you know what? It started showing on my face, my arms & everywhere else. I am all for positive aging and I’m not trying to turn back the hands of time, but certain things that you eat, consume or intake into your body are only going to end up exiting on the outside…where we can ALL see.

I never really wanted to be one of those ‘types’ of people who go on some diet and then preach to anyone who will or won’t listen about the amazing results…and I still swear I’m not going to be, but IF you want to look good, you have to eat good. Word up.

Water…word up.

seriously…if you don’t drink your water on a daily basis, you are just gross. I mean it. Drink up or stink up!

Nuts about Nuts

Jul 26 2007

You can’t go wrong with a handful of nuts a day—walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, macadamia and pistachio nuts contain Omega 3 fats, which are great for your heart. Raw, unsalted nuts and seeds are best. I was reading in one of my SELF mags that having a handful of almonds & as little as 2 brazil nuts will meet your required anti-aging stuff. I will look up the article online and see if I can post it.

Arbonne Herbal Foot Cream

Jul 26 2007

arbonne foot creamI love my feet.  One time when I was in one of my undergrad lectures at CSUN, there was an older woman who was sitting in front of me and to the side, and would always wear sandals. She had the most horrific heels I have ever to this day seen in my life. They were beyond cracked and just plain gross. Ever since that day, I have been uber-religious about slathering my feet every night before I go to bed, even resorting to vaseline or aquaphor on days when my pocketbook wouldn’t justify any sort of foot balm…and out of ALL the ones I have given a test run, three are the winning contenders:

Mesotherapy LipoZap session 4 results

Jul 25 2007

I totally didn’t want to blog about this. It’s almost as if I want to forget it, it was just the weirdest thing. I knew going in that I was feeling bloated, my TOM had just made it’s appearance a week early, my pants were fitting tight and I just wasn’t feeling up to par…period. heh. But I kept my appointment with Dr. Marks since it is so hard to get booked these days with him. Right when I walked in, he was smiling and ready to take my measurements, since last time was so amazing, but like I said, I was just feeling like a pig-blob.
